Monteagle swimming

You may remember my post about the girl being fearful - especially of the water. Well, this past week at Monteagle was a breakthrough. At first, she wanted to just stay in the "wittle pool" so we did. THen she asked to go to the big pool - so I let her daddy take her. She got real comfortable there. Then she said..."I want to go down the slide."
What?!
Really?!
She did GREAT! She went twice & then I think she realized that it was in the deep part of the pool. And that activity quickly came to an end. But it sure was fun while it lasted.

Monteagle biking cousins

So, in Monteagle, the kids have planned activities for the morning - which is a wonderful relaxing break for the parents & a lot of fun for the kids, too. I have lots of pictures of the girls riding their bikes to start their days. Lee says when you drive through the gates of Monteagle you are immediately transported back to the 1930s & he's right in so many ways. There is simplicity & purity oozing throughout this place. There is even an afternoon quiet time where kids actually just kit on a sofa a read a book - not my kids, of course....at least not yet....but what a great habit to get into. It is a dreamy dreamy place. So here are some pictures of the girls riding their bikes - I think this may be one of the first times the girl has actually been on a bike - like a real bike with training wheels - not a tricycle, you know. She loved it!

Family Reunion

I have been neglecting my blog - I know....but the good news is that much has been going on so I have much to report. Fairly arrogant of me to believe that I have large audiences gnawing their finger nails just waiting for me to tell you about the exciting happenings of our life....but I do know for a fact that I have a cousin who is patiently waiting. And so for her, my audience of one, I continue to blog :).

The kids & I went to Mississippi - as I posted earlier - we ate a lot of food, it was hot, and it was great to be with family again. This was the 1st reunion that I have been to in a while - I actually am not sure if I remember actually going to one, but I know that I have. I have memories of this church - that is Carr church in the background of this picture - that's my aunt Betty, she's awesome. One of the reasons we decided to go this year is because this is the 1st year that my sweet uncle Billy would not be there & also they were honoring my grandfather, who I never even got to meet. Being there wihtout my uncle just made me regret not coming back to these reunions when I could have enjoyed it with him. It made it even more real that he's not here anymore. So it was great to be there....but a little bittersweet, as I think life has been for many of us since he died. I had a friend say to me after her grandmother died that going through this made her realize that death is the most unnatural thing. A strange comment at 1st & then I realize that it is SO true. This is not how God intended for life to be - we are creatures inteded to live eternally.
Well, I have successfully rambled enough through this entry. I'll move on to lighter topics & post happy fun pictures from the past few weeks.

Granddaddy

The kids & I roadtripped back to Mississippi for a family reunion where we ate more food than I want to talk about. My dad vowed that Sat afternoon that he wouldn't eat again until late Wednesday night....this was us later that day, actually :). We popped into the ice cream shop & this was all he could muster :). Great memories.....

Picture of the Week

I feel like most of my "Picture of the week" posts are pictures of the boy - but I just happen to keep catching him oozing with cute-ness. I'm biased - i know. And I should be. And they tell me he looks like me :).

Nemo-fish

So, several months ago, the girl picked up a "Nemo" toy that she found somewhere & LOVES it. We went to the Aquarium soon after & found Nemo there. With the swimming issues she has had we thought maybe letting her watch "Finding Nemo" would be a good idea. We decided to put it off - the opening scene is pretty scary - mom & babies are killed....not an easy one for a 3 year old. Well, Saturday night Lee & I put the boy to bed early as he was lying on the floor sucking his fingers - it seemed to be time. And we let the girl stay up a little late, eat ice cream sundaes & though Lee & I argued back & forth on whether or not we should let her watch her 1st movie.....we finally decided to go for it. We pulled out "Finding Nemo" & she was SO EXCITED! We dimmed the lights, got our ice cream - fast forwarded through the 1st scene - & pressed play. Well, in the 1st 5-7 minutes a big man, which she calls Spiderman, takes Nemo away from his dad. She looked at us in horror & said, "Is Nemo scared?" We wonder if it's time to turn it off or should we let her watch it play out & be ok......we keep rolling......and then the big shark comes on the scene. I gulp.
She looooooooses it.
Tears ... "I do not yike dis video"
It's off. And the damage is done.
I mean the tears wouldn't stop. We went to say our prayers before bed & she let me know that Nemo is NOT her favorite video & we prayed that Nemo would not be scared. NIghtmares....crying....occasional reminders that she's not a big fan of the orange fish or any of his friends any more.
Anyone else made a fumble like this in parenting???
